AC Tune-Ups and Maintenance Plans in DeBary and West Volusia

A Florida air conditioner works most of the year. A tune-up from ACE Air Conditioning & Electrical keeps the drain clear, the coil clean and the electrical parts tested, and a yearly plan puts those visits on the calendar.

AC Tune-Ups and Maintenance Plans in DeBary and West Volusia

What a tune-up covers

Each part of the visit targets something that fails in Florida systems:

  • Coils. We inspect and disinfect the indoor coil and clean the outdoor coil so heat can leave the house.
  • Drain line. We flush the condensate line, check the trap and pan, and test the float switch that stops an overflow.
  • Electrical. We test the capacitor and contactor, tighten connections and look for scorched or chewed wiring.
  • Refrigerant. We check pressures and temperatures. A low charge means a leak, and we tell you before anything is added.
  • Airflow. We check the filter, the blower and the temperature drop across the coil.
  • Safety. We check the controls, the disconnect and the heat strips.

We tell you what we found and quote a flat-rate price for anything that needs fixing, and nothing is repaired without your OK. Current offer: $129 AC tune-up.

What an AC tune-up costs

Here is what our customers paid for AC tune-up visits. The plan prices above are per year and cover the visits each plan lists.

Why Florida systems need it

A system in DeBary runs through most of the year and wrings water out of humid air every hour it is on. That steady moisture is why drain lines grow algae and clog, and why the indoor coil grows a film of mold that cuts airflow and gives the house a musty smell. A dirty coil also makes the compressor run hotter and longer, which shortens its life.

Toward the coast, from Daytona Beach to New Smyrna Beach, salt air corrodes the outdoor coil and its thin aluminum fins faster. Rinsing the coil with a garden hose between visits helps, and we look for corrosion at every tune-up.

Spring and fall visits

A spring visit cleans and checks the system before the long cooling season. A fall visit clears the summer's buildup from the coil and drain and checks the heat before the first cold front. The Gold and Platinum plans include coil cleaning twice a year. From January 2023 to October 2026 we completed 158 maintenance visits in Deltona and 110 in DeBary.

Silver, Gold and Platinum plans compared

Plan prices are per year for the first system, and each additional unit is 10% off.

Silver: $189 a year

  • Annual system tune-up
  • Indoor coil disinfection to help prevent mold
  • System efficiency check
  • Flexible scheduling

Gold: $289 a year

  • Twice-a-year coil cleaning and disinfection
  • Filters, coils and drains cleaned, moving parts lubricated
  • Safety inspection of controls and wiring
  • Priority scheduling
  • Discounted repairs

Platinum: $499 a year

  • Twice-a-year full system inspection
  • Advanced mold prevention
  • Twice-a-year coil cleaning and disinfection
  • Front-of-the-line service with no extra charge for emergency calls
  • Larger repair discounts

Silver suits a newer system that needs its yearly visit. Gold adds a second coil cleaning, priority scheduling and discounted repairs, which makes sense for an older system or an attic air handler. Platinum puts you at the front of the line with no extra charge for emergency calls and larger repair discounts. Details and sign-up are on maintenance plans.

Filters between visits

The filter is the one part you look after yourself. Check it every month during the cooling season and change it once it turns gray. A clogged filter starves the coil of air, which can freeze it and push your bill up.

  • Find every filter. Some homes have one behind the return grille and another at the air handler, and usually only one should be in place.
  • Buy the exact size printed on the frame so air cannot slip around the edges.
  • Pleated filters catch far more than thin fiberglass ones, but the densest filters can choke airflow on some systems. Our indoor air quality page explains MERV ratings.

Storm season care

Summer storms are hard on outdoor equipment. When the power flickers or goes out, set the thermostat to Off until power has been steady for a while, because repeated on-off surges are what burn out capacitors, contactors and control boards. A surge protector at the panel or the outdoor unit takes much of that hit.

Before a named storm, pick up loose patio furniture and yard items near the condenser. Afterward, clear branches and leaves off the top and sides before you turn the system back on. If floodwater reached the outdoor unit or the air handler, leave it off and have it checked first; water in the electrical parts can ruin the compressor on the first start.

Heat pump maintenance before winter

If a heat pump heats your home, the fall visit checks the parts that only work in winter: the reversing valve, the defrost control and sensor, and the backup heat strips and their sequencers. We also confirm the thermostat stages auxiliary heat correctly, so the strips do not run when the heat pump can handle the load on its own. The first time the heat comes on each year, a brief burning smell from dust on the strips is normal. In a home with heat strips and no heat pump, the same visit tests the strips, their relays and the limit switch, which is what furnace maintenance means in this climate. Keep leaves, mulch and shrubs clear of the outdoor unit so it can breathe in both seasons. More on these systems: heat pumps and mini-splits. If something has already failed, see AC repair.

Questions customers ask

How often should an air conditioner be serviced in Florida?

At least once a year, because systems here run for most of the year and pull water from the air almost constantly. Twice a year, in spring and fall, is better for older systems, attic air handlers and heat pumps. The Silver plan covers an annual tune-up, and the Gold and Platinum plans include coil cleaning twice a year.

What is the difference between the Silver, Gold and Platinum plans?

Silver, at $189 a year, includes an annual tune-up, indoor coil disinfection, an efficiency check and flexible scheduling. Gold, at $289, adds twice-a-year coil cleaning, a controls and wiring safety inspection, priority scheduling and discounted repairs. Platinum, at $499, adds twice-a-year full inspections, advanced mold prevention, front-of-the-line service with no extra charge for emergency calls, and larger repair discounts.

Is there a discount for putting a second system on a plan?

Yes. Plan prices are per year for the first system, and each additional unit is 10% off. Homes with a second system for an upstairs floor, an addition or a mother-in-law suite can keep every unit on the same schedule, with the same visits, for less than buying a separate plan for each one.

Can I clear my own AC drain line?

You can help keep it clear. Many systems have a capped access port on the drain line near the air handler, and pouring a little white vinegar into it during the summer slows algae growth. Do not push wire up the line or bypass the float switch. If water is standing in the pan, switch the system off and call us.

Do maintenance plan members get faster service?

Gold members get priority scheduling, and Platinum members get front-of-the-line service with no extra charge for emergency calls. Silver includes flexible scheduling for the tune-up itself. Gold and Platinum members also get discounted repairs, with larger discounts on Platinum. See the maintenance plans page for the full list of what each plan includes.

Does a heat pump need a check before winter?

Yes, it is worth it. A heat pump has parts that only work in heating mode: the reversing valve, the defrost control and sensor, and the backup heat strips. A fall visit tests them before the first cold morning, when a failure means running on expensive emergency heat or none at all. It also clears the summer's dirt from the coil.

Service areas: DeBary, Deltona, Orange City, DeLand, Sanford, Lake Mary, and the rest of Volusia and Seminole counties. Call (386) 668-8651 or book online.
