Press Release: Fox35 News
August 8, 2011 – Fox 35 News Reporter, Kelly Joyce came out to The Ace Air Conditioning showroom in Debary to spend some time with Service Manager, Bryan Steadman. She was looking for tips to share with viewers on maintaining an A/C system. In this brutal summer heat the last thing anyone wants is to have their air conditioner stop cooling. Routine maintenance, along with Bryan’s helpful hints can keep everything running more efficiently and even keep the cost of repairs down.
Of course annual or biannual maintenance is extremely important to extend the life of your system and keep it at optimal performance, and routine filter changes are also necessary. Bryan shared another little known do-it-yourself tip that save your unit; pest control. As Bryan explained to Kelly, fire ants and other bugs can be problematic because they are attracted to the vibration of the contactor which has a set of points that need to open and close. If insects get inside, their bodies can either stop it from closing, so the unit doesn’t run, or they can, in effect, weld it closed, so it runs nonstop; either way it causes a serious problem. Bryan’s suggestion was to use bug spray, ant traps or moth balls around the unit to prevent this from happening. Obviously this easy and inexpensive treatment can save a homeowner a significant amount of money on future repairs.
